The Federal Government has sent a stern warning to South African authorities, signaling that retaliatory measures remain firmly on the table as xenophobic tensions continue to threaten the safety of Nigerians and other African migrants in the country.
In a strong statement captured in a viral clip, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Ojukwu, emphasized the urgency of the situation, insisting that evacuation efforts for affected citizens must proceed without delay.
”This aircraft must come to South Africa and our citizens [must be brought home],” the Minister stated, underscoring the government’s commitment to protecting its people amidst the escalating climate of intimidation.
The move follows a troubling surge in anti-migrant hostilities that have left many Africans living in South Africa feeling targeted. Nigeria is not alone in this urgent response; several other African nations—including Ghana, Malawi, and Zimbabwe—have already mobilized to repatriate hundreds of their nationals to escape the worsening environment.
