In a policy proposal that has instantly reignited a fierce political war across Westminster, British politician Kemi Badenoch has unveiled controversial plans to completely scrap the legal duty to promote equality within the United Kingdom.
The explosive declaration, analyzed by Sky News political correspondent Ali Fortescue, targets one of the foundational legal frameworks governing British public services.
Targeting the 2011 Framework
The Public Sector Equality Duty, which originally came into full force in 2011, legally mandates all public organizations—including schools, local councils, and government ministries—to actively evaluate and consider how their internal policies can systematically eliminate discrimination.
Badenoch’s bold stance to eliminate the requirement argues that the 2011 framework introduces unnecessary workplace bureaucracy and administrative roadblocks. However, civil rights organizations and political opponents have fiercely slammed the speech, warning that pulling down the legal safeguard could severely weaken equality protections across public institutions.
