The fragile peace in the Middle East has suffered another catastrophic blow after Israel launched a fresh wave of precision airstrikes targeting strategic positions in western and central Iran.
According to an emergency update broadcast by the BBC Global News Podcast, the bold Israeli military assault comes just hours after Tehran fired a heavy barrage of missiles toward northern Israel—shattering a tense regional ceasefire that had managed to hold since April.
Defying Washington’s Stance
The high-stakes strikes went ahead despite direct warnings from U.S. President Donald Trump, who had explicitly stated that he did not want Israel to carry out a military retaliation.
Responding to the explosions, Iranian military officials declared that the Israeli strikes have crossed red lines, marking the beginning of what they promise will be a “week of continuous, unrelenting counter-strikes” against Israeli territories.
As both military superpowers trade heavy blows, global defense analysts fear the conflict is rapidly spiraling toward a full-blown regional war that could disrupt global energy corridors.
