The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has extended the deadline for the completion of the 2025 admission process for public universities to November 17, 2025.

In a statement signed by Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Public Communication Adviser, the extension was prompted by “emergent and compelling circumstances” affecting several public universities. The board said the move aims to ensure fairness and inclusiveness across all institutions.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, had earlier set October 31, 2025, as the deadline for public universities to conclude admissions. This schedule was designed to allow other tertiary institutions private universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, and innovation enterprise institutions to finalize their processes before the overall closing date of December 31, 2025.

JAMB noted that the revised timeline is intended to stabilize the academic calendar and promote equitable access to admission opportunities across the nation’s higher institutions. It also directed universities still conducting post-UTME exercises to conclude promptly in line with the new deadline.

Reasons for the Extension

According to the board, the extension is based on two main factors:

1. Appeal from the Association of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU):

The AVCNU requested an extension due to disruptions arising from a court order that had temporarily halted the 2025/26 admission process. The order was only lifted on October 28, 2025, creating delays for many institutions.

2. Newly Approved Academic Programmes:

The National Universities Commission (NUC) recently accredited 229 new programmes across 37 universities on October 29, 2025. JAMB noted that admissions into these new courses are just being organized, necessitating additional time for processing.

While commending institutions for their cooperation so far, JAMB emphasized that the November 17 deadline is final and must be strictly observed.

The board reaffirmed its commitment to a transparent, credible, and inclusive admission process that supports national education goals while respecting institutional autonomy. It assured stakeholders of its dedication to maintaining a seamless and trustworthy system that enhances public confidence in Nigeria’s tertiary education framework.
