Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has addressed the severe gridlock affecting commuters traveling out of and within Lagos, following a multi-truck accident at Kara Bridge coupled with active bridge repair works.
Key updates from the governor’s statement and traffic advisory include:
- Cause of Gridlock: A multiple-truck accident occurred on Kara Bridge, severely compounding existing congestion caused by ongoing structural repair works.
- Lane Reduction: Traffic within the work zone is currently narrowed from 4 lanes down to 2 lanes, causing significant slowdowns.
- Duration of Repair Works: The ongoing repair project on the bridge is estimated to last for approximately two weeks, during which traffic will be channeled through the available side of the bridge.
- Emergency Response: LASTMA officials, emergency response teams, and security agencies are deployed on the ground to manage vehicle movement and clear the bottleneck.
