In a major boost for Nigeria’s tech ecosystem and industrial growth, the Federal Government has officially launched a new targeted consumer credit initiative: the Credit for Laptops, Internet, Connectivity and Knowledge Digital Devices (C.L.I.C.K.D) scheme.
Unveiled on Tuesday in Abuja, the program is spearheaded by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy. The scheme is designed to dismantle financial barriers by providing affordable, structured credit for laptops and essential digital tools to participants in the national 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) program.
The Pilot Phase & Local Manufacturing Drive
Under the initial rollout, CREDICORP is deploying 1,000 locally assembled laptops to eligible 3MTT fellows through the Learn2Earn platform. The scheme kicked off with a symbolic hand-over ceremony where 77 beneficiaries received their devices on the spot.
Key structural partners backing the C.L.I.C.K.D rollout include:
- Credit Administration: Fidelity Bank will serve as the financial partner managing credit distribution.
- Device Assembly: The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) and Imose Technologies are locally assembling the laptops to stimulate domestic tech manufacturing.
Building Skills Alongside Productive Tools
Speaking at the launch, the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, emphasized that skills training must be matched with hardware access to drive economic productivity.
“Nigeria’s digital economy can only thrive when our people have both the skills and the tools to succeed,” Dr. Tijani stated. “Through C.L.I.C.K.D., we are helping qualifying Nigerians participate more fully in the opportunities created by the 3MTT initiative while strengthening local manufacturing through the use of locally assembled devices.”
Managing Director and CEO of CREDICORP, Uzoma Nwagba, noted that embedding affordable consumer credit into national talent development turns digital hardware from a costly barrier into a pathway for career advancement.
“C.L.I.C.K.D transforms digital devices from a barrier into an opportunity,” Nwagba explained. “By embedding affordable consumer credit into a national talent programme like 3MTT, starting with locally assembled laptops, we are giving qualifying Nigerians a responsible pathway to the tools they need to learn, work and earn…”
National Scaling Strategy
While the flagship pilot focuses on 3MTT participants, CREDICORP confirmed plans to expand the C.L.I.C.K.D framework across the country. Future iterations will cover a broader range of internet-enabled tools—including smartphones and tablets—for working Nigerians nationwide.
To achieve national scale, CREDICORP is collaborating with additional commercial banks, device vendors, training institutes, and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to expand access to responsible credit.
