The Supreme Court has delivered a final, crushing blow to the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele. In a unanimous judgment delivered on Friday, July 17, 2026, a five-member panel led by Justice Ibrahim Mohammed Saulawa conclusively affirmed the permanent forfeiture of several multi-million dollar assets to the Federal Government.
The apex court completely set aside an earlier Court of Appeal judgment to restore the original decision of the Federal High Court, Lagos. The judiciary ruled that the assets were reasonably suspected to have been acquired using the proceeds of unlawful activities.
The Forfeited Assets Include:
- Cash & Shares: The sum of $2,045,000 in cash alongside the official share certificates of Queensdorf Global Fund Limited.
- Lekki & Ikoyi Real Estate: A luxury detached duplex in Lekki Phase 1, an undeveloped parcel of land on Oyinkan Abayomi Drive (Ikoyi), a bungalow in Ikoyi, a four-bedroom duplex on Probyn Road (Ikoyi), and eight apartment units on Adekunle Lawal Road (Ikoyi).
- Delta State & Additional Holdings: A massive industrial complex currently under construction across 22 plots of land in Agbor, Delta State, as well as a full duplex on Bank Road in Ikoyi.
The Legal Backstory
The high-stakes legal battle was initiated as an action in rem by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) under Section 17 of the Advance Fee Fraud Act.
While a Federal High Court judge originally granted the final forfeiture order on November 1, 2024, Emefiele successfully got the decision reversed at the Court of Appeal. Refusing to back down, the EFCC approached the Supreme Court, which has now officially and permanently ended the legal tug-of-war in favor of the government.
This is the absolute end of the road for these specific assets. With the Supreme Court making the final call, over $2 million and prime real estate across Lagos and Delta are now officially government property.
