The Lagos State Government has appointed Victoria Egunjobi as the new Executive Secretary of the Health Facilities Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA), effective April 13, 2026.

The announcement, shared via the state’s official X platform, was formalized in a letter signed by the Head of Service, Bode Agoro. She succeeds Abiola Idowu, who previously led the agency.

Strengthening Healthcare Oversight
HEFAMAA is the regulatory body responsible for monitoring, accrediting, and enforcing standards across health facilities in Lagos. The appointment underscores the state government’s commitment to improving healthcare quality, compliance, and patient safety.

According to the statement, Dr. Egunjobi is expected to demonstrate dedication, diligence, and integrity in delivering on the agency’s mandate and justifying the trust placed in her leadership.

Professional Background
Before her appointment, Dr. Egunjobi served as Director of Disease Control at the Lagos State Ministry of Health, where she led interventions on both communicable and non-communicable diseases.

A seasoned Public Health Physician with over two decades of experience, her expertise spans data management, malaria control, maternal and child health, family planning, gender-based violence, and health systems strengthening.

She holds degrees in Physiology and Medicine (MBBS), as well as a Master’s in Public Health from the University of Lagos, and a postgraduate certificate in Health Economics from the University of Aberdeen. She is also affiliated with the West African College of Physicians and the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria.

Why It Matters
With a population exceeding 24 million, Lagos operates a vast healthcare network of over 3,800 facilities across public and private sectors. HEFAMAA plays a crucial role in licensing, inspection, and enforcement of minimum standards—particularly as private providers account for the majority of healthcare delivery in the state.

In 2025 alone, several non-compliant facilities were shut down, reflecting the agency’s active role in safeguarding public health. Dr. Egunjobi’s appointment is expected to further strengthen regulatory oversight as the state continues to expand its healthcare infrastructure.

Her leadership marks a strategic step toward ensuring safer, more reliable healthcare services for millions of residents.
