In a major step toward building an all-inclusive state, the Lagos State Government has announced plans to introduce customized vehicle number plates specifically designed for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).

The initiative is a joint effort between the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA) and the Lagos State Motor Vehicle Administration Agency (MVAA) to enhance mobility, visibility, and accessibility for PWDs across the state.

Key Highlights of the Initiative

  • Enhanced Mobility & Recognition: The special number plates are designed to make identification easier for security and traffic officials, ensuring seamless movement and preferential access for PWDs on Lagos roads.
  • Broad Eligibility Coverage: According to LASODA General Manager, Mrs. Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, the plates will cover all categories of PWDs, as well as parents and caregivers of children with disabilities.
  • Inter-Agency Collaboration: Discussions are already underway with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to ensure full regulatory approval and smooth rollout.
  • Legal Alignment: The move aligns directly with the Lagos State Special People’s Law (LSSPL) and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s vision of inclusive governance.

“Inclusion is not just a buzzword; it is a reality that must be reflected in every policy and system we put in place.”
