NIPOST partners Paystack, Sendbox to digitize parcel payment process

The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), in collaboration with Paystack, Messenger, and Sendbox, has unveiled a Digital Payment Solution for Inbound Postal Items — a groundbreaking platform designed to simplify and digitize the payment of customs duties, postal charges, and related fees for international parcels.

At the official launch event in Abuja, NIPOST described the innovation as a major milestone in modernizing Nigeria’s postal and logistics ecosystem, marking a new chapter in the agency’s digital transformation journey.

A Smarter, Seamless Postal Experience

According to NIPOST, the new system integrates multiple features — including real-time customs duty calculation, electronic payments, and end-to-end delivery tracking. The goal is to provide Nigerians with a transparent, efficient, and hassle-free process for receiving parcels from abroad.

FG Applauds Public–Private Partnership

Speaking at the launch, the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, represented by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mr. Rafiu O. Adeladan, commended NIPOST for embracing innovation and partnership.

“This collaboration between NIPOST and its private-sector partners shows what’s possible when government institutions stop working in isolation and start working in partnership — with innovators, with technology, and with citizens at the centre of service delivery. This is how a modern public service should operate.”

Dr. Tijani emphasized that inefficiencies in parcel handling and customs payments have long hindered small businesses and e-commerce growth. The new partnership, he said, aims to eliminate hidden charges, long queues, and payment delays that have frustrated customers for years.

NIPOST Reinventing Public Service

NIPOST’s Postmaster General and CEO, Engr. Tola Odeyemi, described the launch as a bold step in redefining how the postal service interacts with the digital economy.

“For decades, NIPOST has connected Nigerians through letters, parcels, and logistics. But in today’s digital era, connection means more than delivery — it means convenience, transparency, and trust. This partnership represents that transformation,” she said.

Odeyemi noted that the initiative directly addresses one of NIPOST’s biggest customer pain points: unexpected charges and cumbersome payment processes for imported parcels.

“We are creating a seamless system for inbound international items — one that simplifies customs payments, enables online transactions, and ensures doorstep delivery,” she explained.

The Postmaster General acknowledged that many Nigerians have voiced frustrations about hidden fees and inefficient services through social media and direct feedback. She assured customers that NIPOST’s collaboration with Paystack, Messenger, and Sendbox reflects its readiness to embrace technology and rebuild public trust.

Driving Digital Transformation and Economic Growth

“This partnership is proof that innovation can thrive within public institutions. It’s about government and private innovators co-creating solutions that make life easier for citizens and strengthen Nigeria’s digital economy,” Odeyemi added.

In May, NIPOST announced plans to expand its reach by offering financial services nationwide, leveraging its International Money Transfer Operator (IMTO) and Super Agent licenses. The agency also revealed its target to generate over ₦10 billion in annual revenue, reinforcing its vision of becoming a key player in Nigeria’s evolving digital and logistics landscape.
