The management of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has officially confirmed the safe return of two of its personnel who were kidnapped by gunmen late last month.

The staff members were reportedly abducted on April 29, 2026, while performing their official duties. Their release, announced on May 13, 2026, brings an end to a tense two-week period for the company and the families of the victims.

Royal Intervention and Security Coordination

In a public announcement made on X, the DisCo expressed profound gratitude to His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, noting that the monarch’s personal intervention was a “significant role” in securing the positive outcome.

The company also acknowledged the efforts of:

  • Security Agencies: Whose coordinated response was instrumental in the release of the affected staff.
  • The Remoland Community: For their support and concern throughout the crisis.
  • State Governments: Specifically the Ogun and Oyo State governments for their involvement and prayers.

Commitment to Safety

While celebrating the safe return, IBEDC management emphasized its dedication to the protection of its workforce. The company stated it would continue to strengthen operational and security measures to ensure employees can carry out their duties without fear of further attacks.
