The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced a further extension of the grace period for the enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit requirement, moving the deadline to October 2, 2025.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said in a statement on Monday that the decision, approved by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, followed a surge in permit applications through the police official portal.

He explained that the additional time would enable “meticulous scrutiny” of applications to ensure only eligible individuals receive approval, in line with national security concerns.

Adejobi noted that the delay would also allow the Force to fine-tune its digital and physical verification systems to prevent abuse of the permit.

The Force spokesperson urged citizens to report extortion, hidden charges, or unauthorised processing via the police.

The tinted glass regulation, introduced to curb crimes committed with obscured vehicle interiors, has faced public criticism in the past over allegations of arbitrary enforcement.

In 2022, the NPF suspended permit issuance pending the development of a centralised application system, later reinstating it with stricter verification protocols.

The Force assured that it remains committed to balancing public convenience with strong security measures.
