Ijebu Ode Local Government has announced a daily midnight curfew from 12:00 AM to 4:00 AM for seven consecutive nights, running Wednesday, July 30 to Tuesday, August 5, 2025. This measure aims to facilitate the smooth observance of the traditional Oro festival and ensure public safety.

  • Duration: Wednesday, July 30 to Tuesday, August 5, 2025
  • Hours: 12:00 AM to 4:00 AM each night
  • Area: Entire Ijebu Ode Local Government Area

Residents are required to remain indoors during curfew hours. All movement is strictly prohibited, and law enforcement will patrol to enforce the restriction. Non-indigenes and visitors are urged to cooperate fully with authorities to uphold public order and respect cultural protocols.

The Oro festival is an all-male rite during which women and non-initiates are traditionally barred from the streets. The curfew underscores the community’s commitment to preserving these customs and preventing disruptions to sacred ceremonies.

Local Government Chairman Dare Alebiosu framed the curfew as a routine observance of traditional rites. He did not link this year’s directive to the recent passing of the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, who died on July 13, 2025, at age 91.
