The Lagos State Government has advised motorists using the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway corridor to prepare for possible traffic disruptions as repair works begin on the Kara Bridge from 8 September 2026.

In a statement issued by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the repair project is being carried out by the Federal Ministry of Works to fix damaged expansion joints on the bridge.

According to the government, traffic flow will be managed by closing one half of the affected section at a time, while vehicles will share the remaining open lane to minimise congestion.

Motorists travelling through the corridor have been urged to plan their journeys in advance, allow extra travel time, and cooperate with traffic management officials throughout the duration of the repairs.

The government also appealed for patience from road users, noting that the rehabilitation work is expected to be completed within two weeks.

Authorities say the repair project is necessary to improve the safety and durability of the Kara Bridge, a critical section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway used daily by thousands of commuters and commercial vehicles.
