In a major victory for Nigeria’s security apparatus, police operatives have successfully rescued a mother and her 12-year-old twin sons who were violently abducted in Ibadan, Oyo State, earlier this week.

The victims—Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul and her twin boys, Peter and Paul—were freed unharmed following a high-stakes tactical operation that ended a grueling 84-hour hostage ordeal, as detailed in an official update shared by security analyst Aliyu Giwa

The Ambush on the Way to School

The nightmare began on the morning of June 3, 2026, at around 7:30 AM, when Mrs. Adegoke was driving her young sons to school in Ibadan. They never made it to their destination, as armed bandits intercepted their vehicle and whisked them away into captivity, leaving their family and community in deep shock.

For three agonising days, the Force Intelligence Department’s Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) worked round the clock, deploying advanced surveillance, intelligence gathering, and tracking systems to close every operational gap left by the kidnappers.

Fierce Gun Encounter: Two Kidnappers Neutralized

The breakthrough came on June 6, 2026, at exactly 7:30 PM, when tactical operatives closed in on the kidnappers’ hideout. A violent confrontation ensued:

  • Fatalities: Two suspected kidnappers were fatally wounded during the heavy exchange of gunfire.
  • Weapons Recovered: Operatives successfully recovered two rifles from the scene of the encounter.
  • Suspects on the Run: While some members of the gang managed to flee into the bush with severe gunshot injuries, the police confirmed that an active manhunt is underway to trail and apprehend them.

IGP Applauds Operatives, Victims Reunited

Reacting to the successful sting, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, personally commended the FID-IRT operatives for their raw courage, professionalism, and relentless pursuit of the criminals.

Addressing the rescued victims directly, authorities celebrated their resilience, reassuring the young boys, Peter and Paul, that they are completely safe and can finally return to their classrooms on Monday morning.

Kudos to the Nigeria Police Force for this swift and successful operation! What measures do you think need to be put in place to better protect families during their early morning school runs? Drop your comments below!
