The advanced facial recognition technology verifies users’ identities during onboarding, incorporating anti-spoofing detection to block fraudulent or impersonation attempts, thereby enhancing security.

“This innovation will significantly enrich our customers’ digital banking experience,” said Chukwuma Ezirim, Group Executive, E-Business and Retail Products Division at FirstBank.

Inclusive Banking for All. The card-free biometric solution caters to:

          New customers without debit cards

Diaspora customers without physical banking tools

Users with lost or expired cards

          Card-free customers by choice

          Individuals experiencing card verification failures

By expanding onboarding options, FirstBank ensures wider access to essential services such as fund transfers, bill payments, and digital transactions with greater ease and reliability.

“We remain committed to delivering cutting-edge solutions that make banking simpler, faster, and more accessible, while deepening customer satisfaction and loyalty,” Ezirim added.

Other New Features on FirstMobile. The latest app update also introduces:

          Facial recognition sign-up and activation

Virtual credit cards for secure online shopping

          Instant credit card activation

Flexible salary advance with up to three-month repayment

General improvements and bug fixes for smoother user experience

FirstBank encourages customers to update or re-download FirstMobile via Google Play Store or Apple Store to enjoy the full suite of upgraded features.

This strategic shift towards biometric registration removes the traditional card verification barrier, making secure mobile banking more inclusive, efficient, and user-friendly.
