Ibom Air has permanently banned a female passenger, Ms. Comfort Emmanson, after she violently assaulted cabin crew and security personnel on arrival in Lagos, following a flight from Uyo on Sunday, August 10, 2025.
In a statement issued Monday, the airline said the incident began in Uyo when Ms. Emmanson refused to comply with safety instructions to switch off her phone before take-off. Although the matter was initially resolved, events escalated after the flight landed at Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos.
Upon arrival, she allegedly stepped on the Purser, the lead cabin crew member tore off her wig, removed her glasses, and repeatedly slapped her. She also attacked another crew member, attempted to seize a fire extinguisher, and assaulted Ibom Air security personnel, including the ground supervisor.
Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) security staff restrained her, removed her from the aircraft, and handed her over to the Nigeria Police Force. Ibom Air has reported the matter to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority and reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy toward unruly behaviour, warning that offenders face permanent bans and legal action.
The management of Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two (MMA2) confirmed the altercation occurred after the aircraft’s arrival. MMA2 stated that Ms. Emmanson also attacked its aviation security officers during processing and transportation.
The terminal operator warned that violent or disruptive passengers risk immediate security intervention, detention, prosecution under Nigerian aviation laws, placement on airline and airport restriction lists, and civil liability for damages or disruptions caused.
