UTME 2025: JAMB to reconduct exams for candidates in 157 centres starting May 16

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the reconduct of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for candidates impacted by technical errors in 157 examination centres located in Lagos State and the South-East.

A total of 379,997 candidates were affected by these disruptions, which stemmed from “omissions in examination items” within JAMB’s operational zones. The re-scheduled UTME will commence on Friday, May 16, 2025, with direct notifications to candidates via SMS, email, phone calls, and their JAMB profiles.

JAMB emphasized that affected candidates from the malfunctioning centres—65 in Lagos (206,610 candidates) and 92 in the Owerri zone (173,387 candidates)—will be contacted and guided on the next steps. Candidates are also advised to reprint their examination slips to confirm updated schedules.

Addressing Public Concerns

This decision follows widespread criticism and concern from students, parents, and stakeholders questioning the integrity of the 2025 UTME after reports of incomplete and malfunctioning exam content.

WAEC Examination Timetable Alignment

With the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) currently underway, JAMB has coordinated with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to prevent timetable clashes. Notably, adjustments have been made for subjects like Agricultural Science, originally scheduled for Friday, to ensure smooth participation in both exams.

JAMB reassured candidates that any timetable conflicts have been carefully mitigated, stating:

> “Any candidate facing a potential clash, especially for Agricultural Science, will be rescheduled. Most such candidates have been assigned to Saturday to avoid overlap.”

Furthermore, the Board allayed fears of academic disruption, noting that the UTME and WASSCE syllabuses are largely aligned, except for the UTME’s unique reading text, which carries an additional 10 marks in the Use of English paper.
