The Nigerian Federal Government has approved a raise in the monthly allowance for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, setting the new amount at N77,000 effective from July 2024.

Caroline Embu, the acting Director of Information and Public Relations for NYSC, confirmed this in a statement, explaining that the adjustment follows the implementation of the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024. The announcement was also detailed in a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission, dated September 25, 2024, and signed by its chairman, Ekpo Nta.

Prior to this update, NYSC Director General Brigadier General Y.D. Ahmed had met with the commission’s chairman to advocate for enhanced benefits for corps members.

The statement expressed the NYSC’s gratitude to the Federal Government, noting that the increase will provide much-needed relief to corps members, improve their morale, and inspire greater commitment in their service to the nation.
