In commemoration of World Hypertension Day, the Osun State Government has offered free hypertension screening to 4,126 residents—majorly targeting market women—across strategic locations in Osogbo.
The health outreach, conducted at Sasa and Oke-Bale markets, was spearheaded by a medical team from the Osun State Ministry of Health. The team also organized a city-wide street campaign to raise awareness about the silent dangers of high blood pressure and the importance of regular monitoring.
Dr. Adeola Aderinwale, Coordinator of Non-Communicable Diseases at the Ministry, highlighted the initiative’s impact in a statement released on Sunday. She noted that the campaign not only focused on medical screening but also sought to educate residents on preventive measures and the importance of medication adherence.
“In alignment with the global theme, ‘Measure Your Blood Pressure Accurately, Control It, Live Longer,’ we emphasized the importance of accurate readings by qualified health professionals,” Dr. Aderinwale stated. “We reached thousands across Sasa and Oke-Bale markets and extended our awareness campaign to neighboring areas.”
The outreach received commendation from market leaders, including Mrs. Adijat Maruf, head of the Sasa Market, who applauded the state government’s proactive approach.
“On behalf of the market women, I thank the governor for this initiative. Health is wealth, and hypertension must not be taken lightly. I encourage everyone to prioritize their well-being,” she urged.
This statewide initiative underscores Osun State’s commitment to tackling non-communicable diseases and promoting a healthier population through early detection and sustained public education.
